Similarly to most of the facets of project management covered in this blog, stakeholder management can be broken down into simplified processes. Firstly, stakeholders must be identified. Stakeholders can include various persons involved with the project - from customers to shareholders to investors as well as internal stakeholders like your team members and the manager in charge of the project.
Secondly, the interests of your stakeholders must be identified through analysis. This process involves qualitative and quantitative data collection on each of your stakeholders that is used to better understand the expectations of your team and final deliverable. Thirdly, the process of building a line of communication between you and your stakeholders. This process should be built upon throughout the process and constantly utilized to keep all stakeholders on the same page. Lastly, comes stakeholder engagement - where you as the manager strategize to influence stakeholder input in the interest of the project and team.
These process are repeated throughout various parts of project management, including in sections that are completely unrelated to stakeholders, like resource and planning management. Practicing the skills required for stakeholder management will also assist you in learning and mastering each other aspect of project management.
