The biggest problem when it comes to scope management is scope creep. Scope Creep is when the scope of the projects grows out of control. There are multiple things that can lead to scope creep, the main thing is not having a good scope definition. Without a well defined scope definition there will be too much room for interpretation and can lead to too many features being added. Another cause of scope creep is the stakeholders not being involved in the development of the project. If the stakeholders are not involved with the creation of the project the team will tend not to focus on the features that the stakeholders think are the most important and begin to develop features that they feel are most important. The longer a project takes to complete the more of a chance of scope creep because as the project progresses people will become less focused on the main features. The main way to avoid scope creep is to have a well defined scope definition that you will refer back to multiple times throughout the development lifecycle and make sure that the stakeholders stay constantly involved. If scope creep gets out of control it can lead to a loss of time and money.
