Your resources include tools and means to complete your project goal - your staff, your time, your budget and more are under this 'resource' umbrella. Resource management becomes easier to become adept at when you break the topic into stages - selection of resources, allocation of resources, resource management, and resource regulation.
Selection of resources is the process of determining what exact resources you need using your project requirements and expectations. This stage is extremely similar to the planning article we published earlier in the course - planning your resources alleviates stress down the line and ensures you deliver on budget on time.
Allocation of resources involve the procurement of the tools outlined in your selection process. If you as project manager determine more man power is required for this project, this is the step where you hire new employees to meet the expected demand.
Resource management is the meat and potatoes of this process. Throughout the process and these stages, you must constantly maintain the quality of your resources and, in terms of human resources, train them as the project is under development. This upkeep of assets ensures the smooth operation of your team when under stress from development and secures the quality of the project's outcome.
Resource regulation heavily involves measuring your utilization of various resources throughout development to control your spending as well as keep the project under control. If you find your team is not utilizing a tool acquired specifically for this project, during the regulation stage you would phase this tool out and take the resources saved and invest it into another space to further the project.
